Happy New Year! The Season of FREEDOM

Happy 2022 to you! Season 1 for the year is about to begin and this time we will be exploring one of our most fundamental concepts and aspirations: FREEDOM.

Here are some of the questions we’ll be asking as we interview our guests and talk amongst ourselves: What does the word “freedom” evoke for you? What are your insights into freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of (or freedom from) religion, bodily and sexual freedom, or freedom from oppression? Has the concept of freedom been co-opted by conservatives and if so, how do we reclaim our place in the conversation? What is meant by “freedom” as it shows up as core to American identity?

Episode 115 drops on Wednesday, January 12th. The guest will be former drug and alcohol counselor Brian Loebig, who will share his thoughts on helping to facilitate freedom from addiction and criminal thinking. Listen to the show and connect with us on social media @leftscape. We appreciate YOUR contribution to the ongoing conversation.

Leftscape Love,

 Wendy and Robin

The Personals

Self-Care/Pet Care

Lily wearing a doggie rain hoodWhat did we do over winter vacation? Well, Wendy has been practicing self-care by knitting and staying home to avoid people who may carry COVID-19. And her granddog Lily (of our Lily’s Stick of the Month Club faux commercial fame), just got a brand new doggie raincoat!

Fun With Music

piano barRobin has been acquiring home studio equipment, researching sound libraries for future recordings, and generally having fun with music. Robin’s cousin gave the old, unplayable piano a makeover and a new life as a “piano bar”! There’s just a bit of sanding and staining left to do.

For our January edition of We Should Be Recording This, we will take a deeper dive into the topic of FREEDOM to further introduce the theme for the season. Wendy goes much more into The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow, which she talks about in Why Is This Awesome? on Episode 115. The book features some very thought-provoking assertions about essential freedoms.
